Book with handmade paper

Binding- Long stitch.
This hand bound journal was made by traditional methods, the paper was made and cut by hand and then stitched.
The covers are made from salvaged plywood (this may slightly vary to photograph) and the wrap around enclosure is from salvaged off cuts from a leather sofa manufacturer (leather is chrome tanned). I lined the leather wrap-around enclosure with thick canvas cotton (purchased) fixed by hand sewn saddle stitch. The enclosure is secured by a gun metal colour popper fastener.
The leather has been conditioned with beeswax and jojoba oil.
The paper is handmade, (mango leaf) so may not 'take' fountain pen ink too well (may bleed)- but should be fine with Biro or pencil. It is thick and absorbent so ideal for pressing flowers or leaves.

A portable journal to carry with you on walks, to collect flower or leaf samples. Made with handmade paper, salvaged plywood and chrome tanned leather off cuts from a leather sofa maker. Leather wrap around lined with think cream canvas.
Leather wrap around cover -saddle stitch. The book is bound by long stitch and kettle stitch.
The handmade paper is aborbant enough to dry out botanical samples. It also takes pencil and biro, although may be too rough for fountain pen. As the paper is handmade, it does not have a grain direction and each page may vary in thickness.

Covers made from washed up boat wood (sea battered plywood) revealing the different layers of wood. There was a minimum of sanding applied (only to soften any sharp edges and splinters)
